MOHAVE VALLEY, AZ – January 22, 2025 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – Sara Price’s 2025 Dakar Rally journey is one of resilience, grit, and ultimate triumph. After a difficult start that saw her forced to withdraw from Stage 2 due to a mechanical failure, Price’s determination and focus never wavered. Despite her early setback, she staged an extraordinary comeback aboard her BFGoodrich Tires equipped Can-Am Maverick R, securing 3 stage victories in the grueling Dakar Rally and finishing the competition with a total of 5 wins for the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC) calendar.
A Challenging Start & Resilient Comeback
Price, a seasoned competitor and one of the few women driving this year’s Dakar Rally, entered the 2025 event with one clear goal: to win the Dakar and prove her place among the elite in cross-country rallying. However, during Stage 2, disaster struck when a mechanical failure brought the 48H – Chrono stage to a halt. She and her co-driver, Sean Berriman, the 2020 SSV Champion, spent a long, cold night stranded in the vast Saudi Arabian desert. Despite their best efforts, it marked a heartbreaking end to their bid for the Dakar SSV title. However, Price’s determination remained unshaken as she prepared to bounce back and focus on stage wins and seat time in the prestigious rally. It paid off as she and Berriman capitalized on the opportunity to prove their resilience and talent. Price’s off-road and dune driving ability, combined with Sean’s precision route planning, was rewarded with SSV wins in Stage 4, 11, and 12. A great achievement for the Can-Am factory team, showcasing their strength and consistency throughout the rally.
“We came into Dakar 2025 with high hopes and prepared for an intense battle. While it was heartbreaking not to fight for the overall title, I’m incredibly proud of the stages we won and the speed we demonstrated. I want to thank my team for their hard work and support, as well as all the fans who have been cheering us on. This is only the beginning of a long journey, and I am already looking ahead to future races.” – Sara Price
”Dakar 2025 was one for the books. Unfortunately, it didn’t go according to plan the first week. We suffered some mechanical issues causing us to be out of the general standings. With everything that was thrown at us we didn’t give up and managed to make it to the finish. Along the way we got three stage wins and a lot of valuable knowledge and information to be ready for next year. I can’t thank Sara and the Can-Am factory team enough for having me. Looking for to the next one.” – Sean Berriman
A Milestone for Women in Motorsport
Price’s ability to rise above the odds and achieve success in such a physically demanding and mentally grueling event underscores her exceptional skill behind the wheel. In Dakar, winning one stage is a major accomplishment. By claiming a total of 4 stage wins in 2 rally editions (and 6 W2RC wins), Price has solidified her position as one of the sport’s top drivers, but she has also broken new ground for women in motorsport. In her Dakar debut in 2024, she became the first American woman to win a category stage and only the third woman ever to do so, along with Jutta Kleinschmidt and Christina Gutierrez. Price’s achievements continue to inspire a new generation of racers, proving that determination, skill, and resilience can shatter boundaries and redefine what’s possible in off-road racing.
“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, especially after the difficulties we faced,” Price said. “The Dakar is one of the hardest races in the world. It’s not just about being fast; it’s about being smart, being tough, and never giving up. I hope my journey inspires others, particularly women, to follow their dreams, no matter the obstacles.”
Looking Ahead to the Future
After an emotional and triumphant finish to the 2025 Dakar Rally, Price and her team are now turning their focus to the remainder of the W2RC season. With newfound confidence and momentum, she is eager to continue pushing herself to new heights in motorsport.
“This year’s rally has been a turning point for me,” Price said. “It’s given me even more motivation to push forward and keep raising the bar. The Dakar is a long road, and I know this is just the beginning. 2025 continued to give us important seat time and experience. I’ll will definitely be back next year.”
As Sara Price’s journey in motorsport continues to unfold, one thing is clear: she is a force to be reckoned with in the world of cross-country rally.
