Inaugural Supercross Futures AMA National Championship qualifier season wraps up

Eight-round amateur series determines riders to compete at October championship

PICKERINGTON, OH – May 15, 2019 – (Motor Sports Newswire) –  The inaugural qualifier series of the Supercross Futures AMA National Championship came to a close May 5 in Las Vegas, as the nation’s top amateur Supercross talent lined up for a last chance to compete in the Supercross Futures AMA National Championship in October.

The closing round took place at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, where all three Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, class titles had been decided the previous evening.

Supercross Futures AMA National Championship is the official advancement platform for Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship. The series provides an opportunity for amateur competition on a full-size, Supercross track. The Supercross Futures AMA National Championship event is Oct. 20-21 in Las Vegas, Nev.

“The AMA congratulates all of the riders who qualified to compete at the 2019 Supercross Futures AMA National Championship,” AMA Motocross Manager Alex Hunter said. “The Supercross Futures series delivered weekend after weekend of intense competition this year, and we are looking forward to the nation’s top amateur Supercross racers putting an a great show in Las Vegas later this year.”

More than 6,100 entrants competed in the Supercross Futures Series in 2019 across 26 competition classes, ranging from the 51cc Limited (ages 4-6) Class to a 250cc class modeled after the 250SX pro class.

In Futures events, riders earn Road to Supercross points toward obtaining their professional AMA Supercross license. Twenty riders earned enough points in 2019 250SX Futures Class competition to earn their 250SX pro licenses for the 2020 AMA Supercross season.
