WALWORTH, WI – October 16, 2018 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Chicago Bear legend and NFL Hall-of-Famer Walter Payton’s 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo (Lot S134) and four 1955 American gems from The McDonald’s Classics Collection headline the estimated 1,000 classic and collector cars consigned for auction at Mecum Chicago 2018 to take place this Oct. 25-27 at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center in Schaumburg, Illinois.
Mecum Auctions, the world’s largest collector-car auction company, will host Chicagoland’s only annual collector-car auction featuring American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes, Hot Rods, Resto Mods and more. Special offers on auction admission and bidder registration will be available on Friday, Oct. 26 to attendees sporting Illinois State University or Chicago Blackhawks apparel.
Purchased new and cared for by Walter Payton until his death in 1999, the ’79 Porsche is one of 1,200 Porsche 930 Turbos produced for the U.S. Market in 1979. It sports a silver exterior and black leather interior with a turbocharged 3.3L/265 HP 6-cylinder engine and with just 9,950 miles since new. The car was bequeathed to his son, Jarrett Payton, from his father’s estate and has been owned and cared for by Jarrett ever since.
The McDonald’s Classics Collection is composed of four period-correct, collector-grade automobiles that were all built the same year that Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald’s. Their abundant chrome work and glistening two-tone paint schemes were displayed at McDonald’s Store No. 1 in Des Plaines, Ill., for decades. The four cars—including 1955 models of the Chevrolet Bel Air (Lot S101), Chrysler New Yorker St. Regis (Lot S102), Oldsmobile Delta 88 (Lot S103) and the Ford Crown Victoria (Lot S104)—will cross the auction block at no reserve on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The Petros Collection at No Reserve consists of 34 vehicles dating from a 1928 Chevrolet Capitol Half-Ton Pickup (Lot F199) and a 1931 Ford Model A Sport Coupe (Lot F199.1) to a 1999 Harley-Davidson Flhtcui Road King (Lot F220) and a 2006 Lincoln Town Car Signature (Lot F222). The diverse collection further encompasses a 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible (Lot F221), a stunning pink and charcoal 1956 DeSoto Fireflite (Lot F206) and several Thunderbirds including models from 1955 and 1957.
The 59-lot consignment from The Tom Jellison Collection will also be offered at no reserve and will include offerings that run the gamut from early 20th-century runabouts, speedsters, Street Rods and Hot Rods to ‘60s muscle, prewar classics, race cars and modern masterpieces.
The Mountain Estate Collection of nine lots includes a 1917 Ford Model T Runabout (Lot F109), a pair of 1929 Ford Model As (Lots F106 and F108), and a 1943 Bren Universal Carrier (Lot F103), all offered at no reserve.
