O’Neal Wins at 4 Wide Nationals
CHARLOTTE, NC – May 7, 2018 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Don O’Neal drives VP’s Mad Scientist to National Event win at Charlotte NGK Spark Plugs 4 Wide event this weekend at Zmax Dragway. O’Neal’s 1st National Event Win at his newest sponsors event NGK Nationals.
“The weekend was amazing, just simply amazing to finally grab the Big Wally, ” O’Neal smiles. ” It started off with a spin in the shutdown on Friday first qualifier and the Wally on Sunday, spin to win,” O’Neal continued. “I mean seriously we just made a great lap and I spin out in the shutdown area? Geeze what’s a guy to do,” O’Neal laughed.
O’Neal benefitted by two red lights by his competition along with 2 side by side laps with Robert Perkins and the finals against Sandy Wilkins. Wilkins had the starting line advantage, yet O’Neal was able to squeak out a final round victory.
“We had racing luck this weekend along with a pretty good racecar,” O’Neal stated. “Who knew we were going to be this good at our first race, if I let the car down, it picked me up, if it let me down, I picked it up,” O’Neal said. “I could not have written a better story for my first National Event win, racing Sandy (Wilkins) someone that is truly a dominant force in our class and I grew up watching him, it was a great moment,” O’Neal stated.
O’Neal and team move on to the NHRA Southern Nationals this weekend at Atlanta Dragway, in Commerce, GA. Catch all the action on Fox Sports and NHRA All Access. Follow along on www.nhra.com
“We are going into Atlanta the same way we rolled into Charlotte, with great sponsors and our great organization, one lap at a time and we will see if I can give my wife a Wally for her birthday,” O’Neal smiled.
That would be a great present, for a fresh first-time winner.
