STAFFORD, UK – February 21, 2025 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – An outstanding lineup of motorcyles spanning more than a century of two-wheeled innovation will be presented by Bonhams|Cars Motorcycles at the highly-anticipated Spring Stafford Sale on 26-27 April. In conjunction with the renowned International Classic MotorCycle Show, the auction will showcase several remarkable collections as well as bikes that trace the evolution of motorcycle engineering from Veteran pioneers to modern marvels.

The sale will be headlined by a number of exceptionally rare and significant motorcycles with unparalleled racing pedigree including a 1925 Brough Superior 981cc SS100, estimated at £300,000 – 350,000. One of only 12 of the original SS100s from 1925 known to survivor, it retains its matching frame, engine and gearbox numbers and boasts a rich racing history. Successfully campaigned by Bob Matthews, a renowned Irish racer, it recorded a 2nd place finish in the 1927 Ulster Grand Prix. The sale of this significant motorcycle coincides with a record-breaking showcase of 25 Brough Superior SS100s, some of the rarest and most iconic ever made, at the Stafford show in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the SS100.

The sale will also offer the collection of Barry Winter, a lifelong collector and true biker. Over the years, Winter has owned countless incredible machines, but the crowning jewel of his collection is a magnificent 1932 Brough Superior Overhead 680, estimated at £60,000 – 80,000, which he purchased from renowned collector Bill Faulkner after many years of searching for a Brough Superior of his own. Ownership of the 680 deepened Winter’s interest for the Nottingham marque, leading him to acquire a striking 1936 Brough Superior 982cc ‘MX’ SS80, estimated at £30,000 – 40,000. Other notable machines in the collection include:

  • A 1948 Ariel 995CC 4G Square Four. Estimate: £6,000 – 9,000.
  • A 1955 BSA 600CC ‘Gold Star’ Replica. Estimate: £5,000 – 7,000.
