Commanding an overall total of £2.9 million
LONDON, ENGLAND – November 5, 2023 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – Bonhams|Cars presented The Golden Age of Motoring Sale on Friday, 3 November at its New Bond Street saleroom, offering the finest veteran and classic vehicles ranging from motorcars, motorcycles, quads and tricycles. The 164-lot sale, including 134 automobilia lots, made a total of £2.9 million with 88% sold by lot and 100% sold by value.
The annual sale is timed to the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run that takes place on Sunday, 5 November and the offerings are curated with many pre-1905 models. One bidder who was eager to participate in the run this weekend competed for the 1904 Richard-Brasier 16hp Type O Four-Cylinder that was offered at an estimate of £300,000-£400,000. Selling for £328,000, the new custodian understood the rare opportunity to acquire one of France’s premier makes, which had been extensively refurbished and is matching numbers. Onlookers will likely see it this weekend in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
“The sale demonstrated the enduring appeal of pre-war vehicles, along with the distinctive charm of veteran models such as quads and tricycles, commented Tim Schofield, Senior Specialist, and Head of Department for Bonhams|Cars in the UK. “It’s always a pleasure to introduce new custodians to these remarkable vehicles, offering them the opportunity to proudly showcase their treasures at events such as the iconic London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.”
A prime candidate for the London to Brighton Run, the 1902 Panhard et Levassor Type A2 7hp Twin-Cylinder Rear-Entrance Tonneau, was offered with its matching-numbers engine and original coachwork. Considered the perfect balance of age, performance and style, this jewel of a car that has been largely unseen for many years, found a new owner for a total of £368,000.
