LONDON, ENGLAND – November 5, 2023 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce that it will be hosting a brand-new sale at the stunning Cliveden House Hotel, set in the beautiful Berkshire countryside, a short drive from London. The auction will take place over 12 and 13 June and will be the inaugural running of what is set to become an annual fixture in the calendar, adding a second UK sale alongside the long-established London auction in November.
The new auction will be the first held at the world-renowned Cliveden House Hotel, a building originally constructed in 1666 by the 2nd Duke of Buckingham and, in 1893, was purchased by an American millionaire, William Waldorf Astor.
Subsequent Astors used Cliveden for entertaining on a lavish scale, and guests at the time included Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, Joseph Kennedy, George Bernard Shaw, Mahatma Gandhi, Amy Johnson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, T. E. Lawrence, Rudyard Kipling, and many others. The building has also been seen on the silver screen in numerous film and TV productions and continues to remain an iconic hotel set amongst stunning National Trust surroundings.
Sholto Gilbertson, Director of Sales, UK, said: “RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to be hosting an all-new sale at Cliveden House. Adding a further UK sale to the calendar has been an objective for the business, and having the new auction in June will perfectly complement our London auction in November. The venue is a perfect location for us to offer a selection of fine motor cars in spectacular surroundings, and we are thoroughly looking forward it.”
An outstanding early consignment for the Cliveden House auction is a 1963 Aston Martin DB4 Series V Convertible, which is being offered for the first time in 50 years. This remarkable car is estimated at £700,000 – £900,000.
