MUNICH, GERMANY – September 25, 2023 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – RM Sotheby’s is delighted to return to Munich for its eagerly anticipated sale held at one of Europe’s premier hubs of car culture, Motorworld. The event is being held on the 25 November and follows last year’s inaugural Munich auction, which proved to be a record-breaking sale.
A standout early consignment for Munich is the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing, a stunning car presented with red paintwork over a tan leather interior. This fine example is accompanied by a two-piece fitted luggage set, a spare set of steel wheels, and evidence of an older restoration. The 300 SL is known as a true icon of the classic car world and is an ideal blue-chip classic for international tours and rallies. It is estimated at €1,200,000 – €1,500,000.
Another incredible Mercedes-Benz will also be on offer in Munich: this stunning, competition-rich 2004 AMG-Mercedes C-Klasse DTM. As one of just four C-Klasse DTM chassis constructed by AMG for the 2004 DTM season, this example was fascinatingly raced by none other than Jean Alesi, former Scuderia Ferrari driver and Formula One race-winner. This example went on to achieve two pole positions and one podium finish en route to 7th in the 2004 DTM standings, and is estimated to sell for between €475,000 – €575,000.
If you are looking for something more contemporary, few supercars are more exclusive than the remarkable 2011 Lexus LFA. Boasting one of the most incredible sports car engines ever developed, the Lexus LFA boasts a screaming V-10 created in collaboration with Yamaha and was built in the same facility where Toyota Racing constructed its Formula One V-10 engines. The 2011 example on offer is one of only 44 left-hand-drive examples delivered in Whitest White paintwork, and has just 6,109 kilometres on the clock. It will be offered without reserve and is estimated to sell for between €500,000 – €600,000.
Marcus Görig, the German-market Car Specialist, says: “With our first Munich sale having been such an incredible success, we cannot wait to return to the same venue for our second sale. The variety of cars already consigned is creating an exciting prospect for this year’s sale, and we’re looking forward to another remarkable event in late November to round off our European sales calendar.”
The 2010 Alfa Romeo 8C Spider is another outstanding consignment. With a name that plays homage to one of Alfa Romeo’s most iconic 1930s sports-racing cars, the 8C nomenclature returned with a bang when it was first unveiled in 2003. With this example featuring a stunning color combination of Rosso Competizione over a black interior, and just 344 kilometres on the clock, this is surely one of the best examples of the mere 500 built. It is also believed to be the only example that was delivered new to Austria (Estimate: €250,000 – €350,000).
For collectors looking for a modern sports car classic with a meaner streak, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series will fit the bill. With just 2,351 kilometres and one owner from new, the Black Series is powered by an incredible 6.0-litre V-12 engine which gives it 661 BHP and made it the most powerful AMG ever built at the time of launch (Estimate: €250,000 – €350,000).
