BIDDING OPENS 20 MARCH ON RMSOTHEBYS.COM
BLENHEIM, ONTARIO, CANADA – March 20, 2020 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – RM Sotheby’s has announced latest highlights for Online Only: The Palm Beach Auction, a time-based online auction set to open for bidding at 11:00 am ET on Friday, 20 March with staggered closure on lots to begin at 11:00am ET on 25 March. The auction house’s live South Florida sale shifted to an Online Only auction due to the global COVID-19 outbreak. The sale will offer more than 250 diverse collector cars, as well as a selection of memorabilia on rmsothebys.com, with latest car highlights including a 1996 Porsche 911 GT2.
The 911 GT2 on offer is an unmodified example of Porsche’s ultimate 993 model. One of just 194 road-going examples produced, the GT2 is finished in Polar Silver over a black and grey interior, shows just 30,100 km from new and is ready to perform. The 911 GT2 took the top-of-the-line Type 993 Turbo to new heights, eliminating 500 pounds from its curb weight, developing 430 bhp, and 457 foot-pounds of torque 13 psi, all fed to the rear wheels through a new six-speed transaxle and an asymmetrical 40/60 limited slip differential.
The GT2’s bodywork includes aluminum doors and front trunk lid, as well as an aggressive aero package, with a front air splitter with up-turned canards and a huge bi-plane rear-deck-mounted wing. The result is utterly stunning performance, including a 0–60 mph sprint in less than four seconds and a top speed of nearly 190 mph. Road-going GT2s are rarely offered for public sale and the opportunity to acquire a pristine, unmodified example such as this is one to watch – from the comfort of your home (Est. $950,000 – $1,100,000).
Additional cars recently added to the Online Only sale include:
- A 1963 Shelby 289 Cobra, CSX 2095, a well-cared for example of the iconic American sports car, in excellent condition throughout and ready to drive and enjoy (Est. $750,000 – $800,000);
- A timelessly classic 1963 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Drophead Coupe, one of just 12 examples by coachbuilder H.J. Mulliner, beautifully restored to concours standards and converted to left-hand-drive (Est. $500,000 – $550,000); and,
- A 1966 Ferrari 330 GT 2+2 Series II, a matching numbers, Ferrari Classiche certified, unrestored example, and multi-Platinum Award winner at Concorso Italiano and Bella Italiano events (Est. $300,000 – $325,000).
The more than 250 cars on offer in Online Only: The Palm Beach Auction cover all categories of the collector car market and price points from $10,000 through to the million-dollar-plus range.
How it Works – RM Sotheby’s Online Only: The Palm Beach Auction
Lots offered in RM Sotheby’s Online Only: The Palm Beach Auction will begin to open for bidding on Friday, 20 March at 11:00 am ET. Given the high volume of lots on offer, it may take multiple days for all lots to open for bidding. Each car offered in the Online Only auction will be presented with comprehensive photography and condition reports. Where available, additional information on each lot, such as history files, production certificates, restoration documentation, service invoices, owners’ manuals, and accompanying parts, can be viewed online by clicking the ‘View Files’ button on the individual lot page.
Lots will begin closing in five-minute intervals at 11:00am ET on 25 March, with staggered closure times to allow bidders to participate in multiple lots. Due to the large number of lots on offer, ending times may run through to 29 March. Lots will close between 11:00am and 6:00 pm ET daily. Some lots may close after 6:00 pm ET if extensions are issued due to last-minute competitive bids.
