Mecum Auctions’ October Takeover to Dominate Collector Car Marketplace

Mecum Auctions' October Takeover (678)

Auctions in Las Vegas, Chattanooga and Chicago to be
Staged in Consecutive Weeks

WALWORTH, WI – August 31, 2021 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – Mecum Auctions, the world’s largest collector car auction company, will host three collector car auctions in October on back-to-back weekends in three different cities around the country—an occurrence that has been dubbed the Mecum October Takeover. The auctions come on the heels of a stretch of exceptional accomplishment for the renowned auction house, a period that included the successful production of 17 collector car auctions from June 2020 to present and that was punctuated by the achievement of hosting two $100-plus-million auctions in the same calendar year—a first within the industry. In total, Mecum generated more than $500 million in sales in that same timeframe, with record sales achieved at several auctions in addition to the $141 million reached at Mecum Kissimmee 2021 and the $107 million at Dana Mecum’s 34thOriginal Spring Classic.

In the spirit of continual growth and evolution and to further enhance its position as the market leader, Mecum Auctions will once again do the unprecedented this fall as it stages the “October Takeover.” The campaign will include three standalone auctions held over three consecutive weekends in three different cities. The first will be held in Las Vegas Oct. 7-9, followed by an auction in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Oct. 15-16 and then one in the Chicago region Oct. 21-23. Each event is expected to see anywhere from 600 to 1,000 classic and collector cars offered for sale over the span of just two to three auction days.

“Whether it’s our TV programming, customer service, online bidding platform or any number of industry-leading achievements, we at Mecum Auctions have always challenged ourselves to take it to the next level,” Mecum’s Chief Operating Officer Sam Murtaugh said. “We produced auctions last November back-to-back in Las Vegas and Kansas City in the midst of the pandemic, and now our consignment, operations, marketing and most of all, customer experience departments will take on a three-peat this October, and we’re all looking forward to it.”

This is the fifth year that Mecum Auctions has produced a collector car auction at the Las Vegas Convention Center, including the first event to follow the initial outbreak of COVID-19, which was held in November 2020 and employed all established safety protocols. In Chattanooga, Mecum will join the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival for its first-ever auction at the Scenic City’s convention center, and the Mecum Chicago auction is one that began as the Chicago Fall Premier 25 year ago and has been staged at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center since 2013.
