Mecum Chicago 2019 Achieves $18.3 Million in Overall Sales

Action-packed Three-day Weekend in the Windy City

WALWORTH, WI – November 1, 2019 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – Mecum Chicago 2019, hosted Oct. 24-26 at Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center, saw 730 vehicles change hands throughout the three auction days for a nearly 80% sell-through rate. As Chicagoland’s only annual classic and collector car auction, the widely popular event drew massive crowds and achieved overall sales totals of $18.3 million.

Taking the No. 1 spot on the top-selling vehicle list was a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback (Lot S156) that brought in a strong total of $275,000. Other notable individual sales included a multiple-award winning 1962 Ford Thunderbird Convertible (Lot S185) with less than 50 miles post restoration, which sold for a total of $220,000, as well as the 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible (Lot T39) that was sold new at Ernie Banks Ford in 1969, which sold for $209,000.

Private collections were also a smash hit with the Chicago auctiongoers. The main attraction BRP Collection brought in a total of $1.5 million as 17 cars from the collection hammered sold. Among the assemblage was the group’s top-selling one-of-12 1966 Dodge Hemi Coronet 500 Convertible (Lot S102) that brought $107,250. The Chicago-local Petrozzini Estate Collection also caused a stir among bidders, and a top contender from the extensive lineup was a charming 1937 Western Clipper Motorhome (Lot T72) that sold for $60,500 to top off the collection’s 100% sell-through.
