LONDON, ENGLAND – September 5, 2019 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce the entry of 18 additional cars from the celebrated Youngtimer Collection, to go under the hammer at the company’s annual London sale. Held at the renowned Olympia event space in West Kensington, the 24 October auction will feature a hand-selected group of exceptional cars from the collection extending to highly collectable and rare Bentley, BMW and Mercedes-Benz models, and more. RM Sotheby’s revisits the highly successful Youngtimer Collection to offer more sought-after models having already sold more than 130 cars across four auctions so far this year.
Speaking of the significance of the Youngtimer Collectionin London, Gord Duff, Global Head of Auctions, RM Sotheby’s, said: “We are excited to present more cars from this respected collection in our auction at Olympia, and this selection is perhaps the most special group yet. We have sold many cars from the Youngtimer Collection already, and the feedback and interest from collectors has been nothing but positive. We are sure that when these rare cars with such a devoted cult following come up for auction in London, the same attention and reverence will be reflected again, especially as this segment gains traction against a shifting collector car market. Each of these lots is a truly unique opportunity to own a collectable car that can be used and enjoyed every day.”
Leading the latest grouping of cars from the Youngtimer Collection, a 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL 73 AMG is believed to be one of fewer than 50 examples built. This model boasts the 7.3-litre, 525bhp V-12 engine made famous by the Pagani Zonda, adding to the 6.0-litre version of Mercedes’ M120 V-12 engine to give more power to customers with the financial capability and desire to own something truly special. Like many of the ultimate AMGs of this era, this car was delivered new to Japan and therefore benefits from the age-specific facelift that adds revised wing mirrors, color-coded door handles, interior upgrades, and upgrades to the starting sequence that include an ‘auto start’ feature. This AMG is presented in fine condition with 35,000 km on its odometer, finished in black with a black soft top, and black leather interior (Est. £200,000 – £240,000).
Another stand-out lot to wear the AMG badge is a 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300 CE 6.0 AMG ‘Hammer’. This is one of only 12 wide-body 300 CE 6.0 AMGs ever made and is widely considered one ofthemost desirable AMG models. First registered in Japan in November 1995, the car remained in Asia until 2014 when it was purchased and exported to Europe. The car has since been refinished in black and shows 77,500 km on the clock. Seldom seen in coupe bodywork, this would be a wonderful addition to any collection of AMG-modified Mercedes-Benzes (Est. £180,000 – £220,000). A 1991 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEC AMG DOHC 6.0 ‘Wide-body’ adds substance to the modern German classic theme at the auction. This example is finished in Blauschwarz Metallic paint over black leather, also shipped new to Japan where it underwent conversion to its current AMG 6.0 ‘Wide-body’ specification. Later exported to Europe, its condition suggests a lifetime of care and diligent attention (Est. £150,000 – £175,000).
A duo of Bentleys on offer includes a U.S.-spec, California-delivery 1999 Bentley Continental SC with less than 13,500 miles from new and representing one of only 73 produced (Est. £125,000 – £145,000). Also in American spec, a 2009 Bentley Brooklands shows less than 1,700 miles and is one of 426 examples made. Considered by many to be one of the most collectable Bentley models of the 21stCentury, this example was shipped to Europe in 2016 and remains in fine mechanical and cosmetic condition (Est. £125,000 – £145,000).
A selection of rare BMW models includes a 1994 BMW 850 CSi,equipped with the desirable 5.6-litre V-12 engine with six-speed manual gearbox. The car retains its original invoice, owner’s manual and tool kit, and features only 3,600 km on its odometer, presented in the spectacular condition representative of a well-kept example (Est. £180,000 – £220,000). A 1974 BMW Turbo 2002 benefits from a recent full restoration and is offered complete with matching-numbers engine, displaying BMW Motorsport paintwork including the ‘2002 Turbo’ reverse script on the spoiler, and would fit in on the track, at a local car gathering, or at a concours event (Est. £110,000 – £130,000). Of the same era, a 1975 BMW 3.3 Li also benefits from a recent restoration and is complete with original sales brochures, owner’s manuals, original tool kit, and detailed service records (Est. £65,000 – £80,000).
The extension of the Youngtimer Collection in London adds a number of other rare marques to the auction in West Kensington. A 2016Land Rover Defender 90 Autobiography—one of the last Defenders and offered as new with only 70 km on the clock (Est. £60,000 – £80,000), is presented alongside a low-mileage 1990 Lamborghini LM002, a model seldom-seen at auction outside the U.S. (Est. £180,000 – £230,000).
