PICKERINGTON, OH – July 18, 2019 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) –  The nation’s best amateur flat track racers converge on central Ohio starting Monday for the 2019 AMA Flat Track Grand Championship.

The amateur national championship event takes place July 22-26 and features all three disciplines of flat track competition. The event gets underway Monday, July 22, with half-mile racing at the Ashland County Fairgrounds in Ashland, Ohio. The competition then moves to the Triangle Motorcycle Club in Harpster, Ohio, on July 24-26 for short track, TT and half-mile competition.

“The AMA Flat Track Grand Championship is one of the most comprehensive tests of racing talent in the nation,” AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant said. “To win an AMA No. 1 plate at the event, racers must demonstrate mastery of all three flat track disciplines and have the endurance to remain competitive through four days of competition. We are looking forward to another great year of competition at the event.”

Steve Nace Racing is the event organizer.

AMA National No. 1 plates are awarded to the racers in each class who have the highest point totals across all three disciplines of flat track racing.

The AMA Youth Flat Track Racer of the Year and AMA Vet/Senior Flat Track Racer of the Year will be announced at the conclusion of the event.

Additionally, racers compete for the Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award, which honors an amateur racer poised for success at the pro level.

And the AMA Fast Brain Award will be bestowed upon a racer, based upon the racer’s performance on the track and in the classroom. The 2019 award is funded by contributions from AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Legend Bill Werner, flat track team owner Dave Zanotti and flat track and road racing team owner Tim Estenson. Applications are available at

Competitors at the AMA Flat Track Grand Championship ride traditional flat track motorcycles as well as DTX motorcycles, the latter beginning as stock motocross bikes that are then fitted with flat track tires, suspension and undergo other modifications.
