Event to celebrate Honda motorcycle heritage at
Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course July 5-7
PICKERINGTON, OH – June 11, 2019 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – One of the most historic brands in motorcycle tires, Avon Tyres, is the presenting sponsor for Honda AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Avon Tyres — the vintage motorcycling extravaganza that will take over Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, from July 5-7.
“Few brands have as much history in motorcycling as Avon Tyres,” said AMA Chief Operations Officer Jeff Massey. “There is no better event to showcase the mix of vintage style and modern performance that Avon Tyres offers. We welcome their support, as we join with other partners and sponsors, including title sponsor Honda, to celebrate vintage motorcycling at Honda AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Avon Tyres.”
Avon Tyres (www.avontyres.com) made its first motorcycle tire in 1911. Its history includes Isle of Man TT victories and many other motorcycling championships. Racing legends, such as John Surtees, Mike Hailwood and Barry Sheene, have won with Avon Tyres.
“Since so many vintage street riders, racers and collectors rely heavily upon Avon Tyres for a variety of tread patterns designed to suit older bikes, it’s a natural fit for us to be the presenting sponsor at this world-class event,” said Don Argento, E-Sales Marketing and Promotions Manager, Avon Tyres, North America Motorcycle.
In addition to tires for classic bikes, the Avon Tyres range includes tires for hypersport, hypersport touring, adventure sport, custom and touring/cruiser applications. Avon Tyres are original equipment on Triumph models, including the Thunderbird LT, Bonneville Bobber, Bobber Black and Bonneville Speedmaster models, as well as Royal Enfield motorcycles.
Honda AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Avon Tyres will not only celebrate the 50th anniversary of Honda’s legendary 1969 CB750, but also the 40th anniversary of the six-cylinder CBX and the 60th anniversary of Honda Motor Company’s presence in America.
Three-time AMA Grand National Champion and AMA Superbike Champion Bubba Shobert will be Grand Marshal of the event. Shobert is a longtime factory Honda rider and one of the winningest racers in professional motorcycle competition.
Honda AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days presented by Avon Tyres, welcomes riders and racers of all brands to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. All activity at the event financially supports the American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that raises money for the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame.
The event will include vintage competition in road racing, motocross, hare scrambles and trials at Mid-Ohio and flat track racing at the nearby Ashland County Fairgrounds. Riders in these disciplines are racing for national championships or national championship series points. In addition, the Biltwell Pit Bike Races, the Biltwell Holeshot Challenge and the Biltwell Off-Road Poker Run will also be held.
Vendors from all areas of motorcycling will be present, selling gear and services for motorcycles old and new. Vendors include vintage and modern gear sellers, parts and tools dealers, community garages and much more.
Motorcycling experts will speak on numerous topics, including motorcycle restoration and travel. Speakers this year include three AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famers — Scot Harden, Mary McGee and Peter Starr. And AMA staff members will conduct a panel discussion on important legislation affecting riders.
Tickets are available for purchase online at www.amavintagemotorcycledays.com or at the gate during the event. A weekend pass is $60, a single-day admission for Friday or Saturday is $40 and a single-day admission for Sunday is $35. Kids 12 and younger get in free.
