Exciting new venue to host EnduroCross in conjunction
with Sand Sports Super Show
IRVINE, CA – September 12, 2018 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Round two of the 2018 AMA EnduroCross series will be in Costa Mesa, California this Saturday, September 15th. After an amazing opening round with a packed arena in Arizona, the top EnduroCross racers are looking forward to another great event. The brutal track in Prescott Valley provided a full night of unpredictable racing and you can expect more of the same at the Orange County Fairgrounds this weekend.
After exchanging the lead several times, FMF KTM’s Cody Webb managed to take the round one win over Rockstar Husqvarna’s Colton Haaker. Both riders crashed multiple times during the evenings racing, including the main event, and both were exhausted when the race finished. These two riders have proven to be the best indoor extreme off-road racers in the world as they have claimed the last four EnduroCross championships and last two FIM Super Enduro World championships between them. So, the sparks often fly when these two riders clash on the track and that is likely to happen again on Saturday night.
While Webb and Haaker are the two stars of the sport, there is a great supporting cast of racers looking to narrow that gap and fighting for the podium. Below are the riders that battled to top-ten finishes at round one:
- SRT-Husqvarna’s Trystan Hart, a young Canadian, finished third at the opening round. He finished the 2017 season ranked second to Cody Webb and is a regular front runner.
- Kyle Redmond, also riding an SRT-Husqvarna, had a solid night that included beating Cody Webb during the head-to-head bracket race before finishing forth in the main event.
- Ty Cullins had a great race in Arizona to finish fifth on his Beta. This will be a home race for the Riverside, California native.
- Geoff Aaron is a ten-time US Trials Champion and he is still very competitive despite being one of the true veterans of EnduroCross racing. He thrived on the tough Arizona track and finished sixth.
- Ty Tremaine became the first rider to qualify for a pro class main event on an Electric-powered motorcycle at round one. Keep an eye on him as he continues to develop the Alta Redshift EXR.
- Max Gerston was recovering from an injury at round one but still finished eighth. He will be looking to improve on that with his factory Beta.
- Cooper Abbott, the son of legendary off-road racer, Destry, is one of the standout young riders and had a solid ninth place finish at round one on his RPM KTM.
- Noah Kepple, another youngster from Southern California, rode his GasGas 300 two-stroke to a top ten finish but he has proven to be capable of better finishes, as well.
In addition to the pro class, EnduroCross events include classes for the Women, Vet 35+, Amateur and TrialsCross.
FMF KTM’s Kacy Martinez made a last lap pass on Shelby Turner to win the opening round in the Women’s class. Destry Abbott, who is now forty-six years old, has dominated the Vet class but a lot of other great riders battle it out for the podium spots. And the Amateur and TrialsCross classes also provide some exciting racing for the crowd as they develop their skills. The Costa Mesa event will also feature a special class for AMA District 37 racers.
