Following the successful 2023 launch for 2007 and later Harley-Davidson models, BAKER has brought the exact same bulletproof engineering, slim profile, and mechanical durability to 1987-2006 Big Twin models, including 1987-1994 FXR’s.

Engineered with painstaking focus on details and minimal waste, the new five-speed side cover addresses a notorious pain point for customizers and high-performance motorcycle builders: tight exhaust routing clearance. Standard OEM factory side covers are notoriously bulky, often forcing restrictive pipe placement on high-performance, custom or racing builds, three types of bikes where the narrower profile of the BAKER Side Cover makes a big difference. This cover doesn’t alter the tactile cable clutch feel that many riders prefer.

Technically superior to stock cast assemblies, each cover is CNC-machined from certified 6061-T6 billet aluminum for exceptional structural integrity under high-torque loads.

To eliminate the weak links inherent in factory setups under aggressive riding conditions, every kit ships with a BAKER Heavy Duty Throwout Bearing Kit (PN TBK-56L). This bearing features a 97% greater surface area and 77% greater static load capacity over the stock bearing and relies on the included, specially machined BAKER ball and ramps to maximize clutch disengagement. With the complete BAKER setup, riders experience smoother shifting and ease in finding neutral. (Because the heavy-duty bearing is engineered exclusively for this proprietary ramp design, utilizing a different factory or aftermarket ball and ramp setup requires reverting to a standard, stock-style throwout bearing and forgoing the increased load capacity benefits.)

For straightforward servicing, BAKER integrated a convenient oil level weep hole into the Side Cover, making routine maintenance quick and mess-free. The cover offers seamless drop-in integration, tailored to utilize the stock clutch cable, ball, and ramp mechanism.

For custom builders and restorers, aesthetics are as critical as performance. The 5-speed side covers are available in Raw Machined aluminum, a rugged look for a high-performance motorcycle, or Gloss Black, which looks perfect on today’s custom bikes.

Recognizing the resurgence of classic performance builds, Baker has also engineered dedicated versions specifically tailored to fit factory mid-controls on now-popular 1987-1994 FXR models.
