Bonhams Launches Consignment for The Autumn Stafford Motorcycle Sale with Ex-Steve McQueen Husqvarna 250cc Motocrosser and Important Team Appointments

LONDON, UK – July 17, 2026 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – Bonhams has confirmed that consignments for its two-day Autumn Stafford Sale on 10-11 October at The Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show have now opened. Already confirmed is a 1972 Husqvarna 250cc Motocrosser previously owned by actor, Steve McQueen, being sold without reserve with an estimate of £30,000 – £50,000. Entries for the Autumn Stafford Sale will be supported by the important news that James Robinson, Editor of The Classic MotorCycle magazine, has joined the Bonhams Motorcycle team.

The ex-Steve McQueen 1972 Husqvarna 250cc Motocrosser will be sold alongside a plethora of interesting, modern, historic and storied motorcycles. From the earlier eras, this includes a wonderful barn find 1931 Brough Superior Overhead 680 with an estimate of £20,000 – £30,000, to the 1926 ex-works Scott 498cc raced by J H Welsby in the Isle of Man TT race, estimated from £15,000 – £18,000.

Buyers of historically important racing motorcycles will also appreciate a Yamaha TZ700, estimated at £18,000 – £24,000 through to the ex-Isoyo Sugimoto and David Emde 1978 Yamaha TZ750 that secured 2nd Place in the inaugural Suzuka 8 Hours race, that has an estimate of £18,000 – £24,000. Also included in the sales is a Gilera 500cc Grand Prix Racing Motorcycle Re-creation by Kay Engineering, estimated between £45,000 – £65,000.

For collectors of more modern two-wheel machines, Bonhams Autumn Stafford Sale will offer a 1984 Yamaha RZV500R with an estimate of £8,000 – £12,000, a 1999 Ducati 996 Biposto with an estimate of £4,000 – £6,000 and the all-conquering 1994 Honda Fireblade CBR 900RR, estimated at £3,000 – £5,000.

The call for consignments to the Autumn Stafford Sale comes as Bonhams confirms that James Robinson, the well-respected Editor of The Classic MotorCycle magazine, has joined the company’s Motorcycle team as a consultant Specialist. James remains as Editor of The Classic MotorCycle but for Bonhams, he will be responsible for valuing, inspecting, consigning and cataloguing machines for the company’s expanding roster of auctions.

Confirming the Autumn Stafford Sale and James Robinson’s appointment, Ben Walker, International Department Director of Bonhams Collectors’ Motorcycles, said: “With the unprecedented success of our Spring Stafford sale, we rewrote the record books by selling the ex-Mike Hailwood and Giacomo Agostini 1965 MV Agusta 500cc Grand Prix Racing Motorcycle for £967,000 – the second most expensive motorcycle ever sold at auction. I’m therefore excited to open consignments to the Autumn Stafford Sale. We’ve already secured some outstanding motorcycles of great provenance and storied ownership, and our auction on 10-11 October already promises to be another epic Bonhams motorcycle sale. Having James Robinson’s support in the team for this and future auctions will be invaluable. James brings an outstanding breadth of knowledge and experience, together with a reputation that has been built over decades within the classic motorcycle community. He is one of the most recognisable and respected figures on two wheels and he’ll be a great asset to both Bonhams and our clients going forwards.”
