LONDON, ENGLAND – April 11, 2025 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce an exceptional list of early consignments for its all-new Milan sale on 22 May. The auction will be held at the stunning Fonderia Macchi Carlo, a former industrial building that has served as a backdrop to some of the most exclusive fashion catwalk shows in Milan with leading brands such as Gucci and Valentino having showcased their new collections at the venue. With the consignment deadline fast approaching, further additions to the line-up are expected to be announced over the coming weeks.
The 22 May event is the first RM Sotheby’s live auction in Italy since choosing to endits long partnership with the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, at which the company hosted a biannual sale in the grounds of Villa Erba. Always seeking to develop and innovate its live auction offering in Europe, RM Sotheby’s is actively engaged in future plans for other spectacular new auctions in the Italian market. With new partnerships in place with both the Anantara Concorso in Rome and the FuoriConcorso at Lake Como, the company has a wealth of exciting opportunities to explore in the coming years as it seeks to develop its client base and bring a fresh new approach to the European auction scene.
One of the main draws of the Milan sale will be the recently consigned Stuttgart Legends Collection, an incredible selection of landmark Porsches plus a stunning 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing. The early production example was delivered new to the United States via the Mercedes-Benz importer for New York and retains its matching-numbers body, chassis, and engine, while stylishly presented in a timeless black over black colour combination (Estimate: €1,150,000 – €1,500,000 EUR).
Among the Porsches in the collection is an incredible 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0, one of only 55 examples of the revered air-cooled competition legend. The car is an ultra-rare, race car-derived homologation special that was spiritual successor to the lauded RS 2.7. Supplied new to Düsseldorf in 1974, this fine example is offered with a report from marque authority Andy Prill (Estimate: €1,100,000 – €1,500,000 EUR). Continuing the competition tradition is a 1997 Porsche 911 GT2 R, which presents an enterprising bidder the tantalising opportunity to complete the project to their own specification. Being one of a reported 10 examples of the 993-generation GT2 R race car built in 1997, the car will be eligible for a variety of historic GT and endurance racing series upon completion. It is estimated to sell for between €675,000 – €725,000 EUR.
A 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR will also cross the block in Milan. One of only 45 examples of the type-993 Carrera RSR race car produced, it was delivered new to famed race team Zakspeed in March 1998 (Estimate: €450,000 – €550,000 EUR).Also offered is a 2002 Porsche 911 GT3 RS with a remarkable race history, having finished 2nd in class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and 3rd overall in the 24 Hours of Spa in 2002 (Estimate: €300,000 – €500,000 EUR). The collection is rounded off with a 2004 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup finished in eye-catching UPS livery, which raced in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany in 2005 (Estimate: €130,000 – €180,000 EUR).
Following The Stuttgart Legends Collection are a number of significant individual consignments, including a remarkable 2008 Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 that stands out for being the final DBR9 chassis constructed by Prodrive between 2005 and 2008. Powered by a howling V-12 engine, the iconic racer contested two rounds of the 2010 FIA GT1 World Championship, finishing in 5th place at Silverstone. It is now offered from the care of only its second owner, and is highly eligible for historic race series such as Masters Endurance Legends (Estimate: €1,500,000 – €1,800,000 EUR).
Also from the Aston Martin stable, albeit from a different era, is a 1965 Aston Martin DB Short-Chassis Volante. The rarest series production Aston Martin convertible ever made and the first to wear the vaunted Volante badge, Short-Chassis are among the models most coveted by collectors. This example is doubly appealing for retaining its matching-numbers, all-alloy, twin-cam straight-six engine (Estimate: €675,000 – €725,000 EUR).
Bringing some Italian flair to the sale is a 1995 Ferrari F355 Berlinetta that was delivered new to former Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 driver Michele Alboreto.Presented in its factory-correct colour pairing of Nero Carbonio over a Beige leather interior, this gorgeous example is also offered with its coveted “Red Book” following its all-important Ferrari Classiche certification in December 2024 (Estimate: €150,000 – €190,000 EUR). The early consignments for Milan are rounded off by a 1985 Aston Martin V8 Vantage ‘Oscar India’, which boasts a five-speed manual gearbox and its matching-numbers 5.3-litre V-8 engine, in addition to being accompanied by a copy of its factory build sheet (Estimate: €165,000 – €200,000 EUR).
