Poised for Gold in SX450 Class

In the premier 450 SX class, former champions Cooper Webb and Eli Tomac lead the charge for ProTaper, with these riders owning two of the top three positions in Championship points. Cooper has a shot at taking the points lead with the right results at the final race in Salt Lake City this weekend.

Webb (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) is a former SX 450 champ and a two-time AMA Motocross champion. He’s known for his “throwback” riding style, reminiscent of some of the greatest MX riders in history.

Stars Shine in the 250SX Class

Reigning 250SX Champion and 2023 250MX Rookie of the Year Haiden Deegan (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing), who currently owns second place in 250 SX East, is within reach of the top spot with a strong finish in the final race of the season.   Deegan is a fan favorite who made waves as a young rider, then burst into the top levels of both Supercross and Motocross in 2023.

Meanwhile, in the 250SX West Class, ProTaper riders RJ Hampshire is tied for first place in championship points and Jordon Smith owns third place going into Salt Lake City.

Hampshire, who went pro in 2014, is coming off a win two weeks ago in Nashville. He joined the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team in 2020 and has nabbed runner-up spots in both the 250SX East and 250SX West in recent years. He’s earned five wins in Supercross and four wins in Motocross.

Rounding out the ProTaper rider roster is veteran racer Jordon Smith (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing). A long-time contender, Smith was runner up for 250 East in 2018 and has four career SX wins. He had a strong start to 2024, coming out of the first round in second place. With a win in the second round in San Francisco, he briefly carried the championship leader’s red plate.
