LONDON, ENGLAND – April 23, 2024 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) –  Taking place alongside the legendary Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, RM Sotheby’s returns to the Grimaldi Forum from 10-11 May 2024 for an impressive two-day sale with a truly remarkable offering of competition and rally greats.

With the incredible Jody Scheckter Collection recently announced, as well as the addition of the last ever Porsche 917 to race at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Monaco sale is marked by its significant selection of important motor cars. Today, the roster has been bolstered with several additional competition greats.

One of the standout new consignments is the 1954 Ferrari 625 F1. An ultra-rare early 1950s Ferrari Formula 1 car, it was the first Ferrari to be campaigned by the Belgian national team, Ecurie Francorchamps, and was also the only Ferrari monoposto ever raced by the legendary Marquis Alfonso de Portago. Documented with a Ferrari Classiche inspection report and history by Marcel Massini, this beautifully proportioned and storied Formula 1 car went on to reside in the prestigious Bardinon Mas du Clos Collection for over 15 years. Now emerging from 20 years of single ownership, it is estimated to sell for between €2,500,000 – €3,000,000 EUR.

This is followed by another competition car but from a different era. The 1991 Jaguar XJR-15 is one of just 52 produced and was one of a limited number of racegoing XJR-15s built to compete in the JaguarSport Intercontinental Challenge. Presented in its 1991 livery, the car was campaigned by Works TWR driver Derek Warwick in the 1991 series and was the race-winner in the opening round at Monaco. Known to be about as close to a race car for the road as possible, this example is estimated to sell for between €1,400,000 – €1,600,000 EUR. The sole 2020 McLaren Senna GTR ‘LM 25’ by Lanzante continues the race car for the road theme. One of just seven ‘LM 25’ cars designed and built by Lanzante and certified by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, this example was inspired by the McLaren F1 GTR  that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1995, chassis 01R. This one-off example retains the Senna GTR’s thundering 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V-8 for a return of 814 horsepower and is estimated to sell for between €1,400,000 – €1,600,000 EUR.

A fascinating 1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 ‘Rallyewagen’ will also be offered in Monaco. An ex-Mercedes-Benz Works rally car and one of seven built, it was the very car that earned Swedish rally ace Björn Waldegård the 1979 World Rally Championship for Drivers’ title. It also boasts podium finishes at the 1979 Rallye Bandama Côte d’Ivoire and 1980 Marlboro Safari Rally, meaning that it has more podium finishes than any other 450 SLC 5.0 built. Highly eligible for historic rallying and endurance racing events, this example is offered for the first time in over 30 years (Estimate: €800,000 – €1,000,000 EUR). A special 1991 Audi V8 quattro DTM will also be coming to the sale. An original Audi Sport-entered, Schmidt Motorsport-run car for the 1991 and 1992 DTM seasons, this chassis recorded three race wins in the 1991 DTM driven by two-time Le Mans winner, Hans-Joachim Stuck. Retained by Audi until its sale to former driver Hubert Haupt in 2014, the car has remained in his care ever since. It is now accompanied by its FIA HTP papers as well as an extensive spares package, including its original race engine (Estimate: €750,000 – €1,000,000 EUR).

Other incredible competition cars coming to the Monaco sale include a 1998 Porsche 911 GT2 by Roock Racing. One of just six 911 GT2 Evolutions constructed by Roock Racing using lightweight and reinforced monocoque chassis supplied by Porsche, this chassis contested all 10 rounds of the 1998 FIA GT Championship and achieved four top-six class finishes. Offered directly from the collection of its Daytona-winning driver, Hubert Haupt, it is highly eligible for historic racing (Estimate: €750,000 – €1,000,000 EUR). This is complemented by a 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT2, which was the factory development prototype piloted by Aston Martin Racing drivers including Darren Turner and Tomáš Enge. It secured class wins at the Nogaro and Zolder rounds of the 2008 FIA GT Championship and was a Works entry in the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. It now benefits from a comprehensive rebuild and recommissioning by Pursuit Racing in 2023 and 2024, and is estimated to sell for between €750,000 – €950,000 EUR.

Another Stuttgart icon to be offered in the sale is a 1976 Porsche 934. The first production-based, turbocharged racer from Porsche, this example is one of only 31 factory-made 934 Group 4 racing cars. It boasts a remarkable history including 18 overall victories or class wins out of 69 race entries over six years. Now restored to its original livery and specification, it is highly eligible for the most prestigious historic racing events (Estimate: €750,000 – €900,000 EUR). From Group 4 to Formula 1, the Porsche is followed by a 1999 Prost AP02. Raced four times by Olivier Panis during the 1999 Formula 1 season, its successes include being driven to 6th position at the 1999 Brazilian Grand Prix. The 3-litre Peugeot V-10-powered grand prix car was fully restored by LRS Formula between 2022 and 2024, and is finished in its period-correct 1999 livery (Estimate: €700,000 – €1,000,000 EUR).

This incredible offering of racecars is rounded off with a trio of iconic machines, the first being a 1985 Audi Sport quattro S1 E2. One of just 20 Audi Sport quattro S1 E2s ever built, it was entered in the 1986 Rallye de Portugal by two-time WRC champion Walter Röhrl. It later contested the 1989 and 1990 Race Of Champions, being driven by no fewer than nine World Rally Champions. It is now offered from its current owner of over 30 years (Estimate: €500,000 – €700,000 EUR). This is followed by an iconic rally legend of a younger vintage, a 2011 Citroën DS3 WRC. Believed to be one of just 13 Works DS3 WRCs constructed between 2011 and 2016, it achieved four WRC wins with Sébastien Ogier in 2011, securing 1st place in Portugal, Acropolis, Germany, and France-Alsace. It was also driven by Mikko Hirvonen in four WRC events in 2012, securing 2nd place finishes in Argentina and New Zealand, and was recently serviced by rally preparation specialists PH Sport in 2019 (Estimate: €450,000 – €700,000 EUR).

The final competition car in this remarkable offering is a 2019 Aston Martin Vantage DTM, which is one of five Vantage DTMs constructed for the 2019 DTM Championship. Driven by Daniel Juncadella to seven top-10 finishes, it is now offered for sale directly from the HWA Team, together with a complimentary two-day track familiarisation session with the world-famous racing team (Estimate: €470,000 – €650,000 EUR).
