RM Sotheby’s Announces the British Classic Collection – A No-Reserve, Online Sale Happening in February

LONDON, ENGLAND – February 22, 2024 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – RM Sotheby’s is delighted to announce British Classics Online—a sale of seven British-built automobiles spanning from 1928 to 1962. These include examples built by leading British marques Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Austin-Healey.

A fantastic star consignment for the sale is the 1928 Bentley 4½-Litre Supercharged Le Mans Tourer in the Style of Vanden Plas. A rare 4½-Litre Bentley that has been upgraded to ‘Blower’ specification, this example was fitted with a later body in the style of the tourers which attempted victory at Le Mans in 1930. Chassis TX3227 was delivered new to Mrs. Boyd of Rye, East Sussex, before passing through the hands of a series of eminent custodians, including Major Sir Robert Abercromby of Eaton Terrace, a distinguished Military Cross winner. Highly eligible for historic events, including Le Mans Classic, this example is offered without reserve and is estimated to sell for between €500,000 – €700,000.

This is followed by another two Bentley 4½-Litres. The first being a 1929 Bentley 4½-Litre Tourer ‘Project’ in the style of Vanden Plas. This example is a rolling chassis project; fitted with front and rear axles and a steering box, which makes it an ideal opportunity to build a competitive vintage racer, endurance rally car, or simply a ‘WO’ Bentley for gentle touring (Estimate: €100,000 – €150,000). This is followed by a 1930 Bentley 4½-Litre Supercharged Tourer ‘Project’ in the style of Vanden Plas. This example is another rolling chassis project with correct modifications for accepting a supercharged 4½-Litre engine. It also offers a fine platform from which to potentially build a ferociously quick ‘Blower’ specification Bentley (Estimate: €100,000 – €150,000).

This is followed by yet another special British-built machine with the 1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II Limousine by Barker. Retaining its original Barker body, this gorgeous example is fitted with its matching-numbers engine and offers the rare chance to acquire one of Rolls-Royce’s greatest models (Estimate: €50,000 – €80,000). This is complemented by another Rolls-Royce: a 1931 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Riviera Town Car by J.S. Inskip. One of the rarest body designs produced on a Rolls-Royce chassis, this is a characterful, late example of a Springfield-built Phantom that is offered with its matching-numbers engine (Estimate: €50,000 – €80,000).

The collection is rounded off by two superb British sports cars built by Austin-Healey. The first is a 1959 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I BT7. A desirable early left-hand-drive 3000 Mk I BT7, this is a pleasant example of a versatile classic (Estimate: €40,000 – €60,000). This is followed by a 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk II BN7. A rarer BN7 two-seater, this example is an ideal candidate for a starter classic and is estimated to sell for between €40,000 – €60,000.
