FERRARI 250 GT/L BERLINETTA LUSSO FOLLOWS CLOSE BEHIND AT $1.5 MILLION

LOT CLOSURE CONTINUES SATURDAY, 15 AUGUST AT 2:00 PM EDT

BLENHEIM, ONTARIO, CANADA – August 15, 2020 – (Motor Sports  NewsWire) –  Today, RM Sotheby’s successfully completed the first day of lot closures for Online Only: SHIFT/MONTEREY—the largest auction by value held via the company’s proprietary Online Only platform—with sales led by a low-mileage, highly optioned 2014 Pagani Huayra at $1,848,000.

The 56th of just 100 bespoke examples produced between 2011 and 2016, the imaginatively designed Pagani Huayra gets its power from a 730 hp, 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-12 engine hand-assembled by Mercedes-AMG and paired with a seven-speed Xtrac automated manual gearbox. Originally delivered to British Motor Exotics of San Francisco, California, and exhibited at the 2016 San Francisco Chronicle Auto Show, the hypercar comes to its next owner wearing fully exposed carbon fiber over premium Malevic and Ametista leather and equipped with an extensive list of factory options including black painted wheels, custom caliper paint, and Tricolore mirrors.

Friday’s sale session also saw exceptional results for a highly original 1964 Ferrari 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso by Scaglietti, which surpassed its pre-sale estimate following a flurry of last-minute bids and sold for $1,496,000. Offered from the Ray Boniface Collection, where it had resided since 1974, the regularly exhibited Lusso came to auction finished in its original and rare color combination of Avorio over Rosso leather and fitted with its numbers-matching drivetrain, including the engine, gearbox, and differential.

A memorable moment of the Friday sale session came when the one-off 1960 Porsche MOMO 356 RSR Outlaw by Rod Emory finally closed for bidding. Receiving an impressive 46 bids, the Outlaw sold for a final $858,000, smashing its pre-sale estimate of $450,000-$650,000. While it maintains the look of a 356, the Porsche’s body has been stretched over a stiffer 964-generation chassis while incorporating some definitive 935 design hallmarks. The car utilizes several trademark MOMO products, including the MOMO center-lock five-spoke wheels, and comes fitted with a potent twin-turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four fueled by Rothsport fuel injection.

Other stand out highlights from Day One include a wonderfully restored 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster, fitted with its original engine and offered in the Online Only auction from just four private owners since 1961, which sold for $1,045,000; an ultra-rare factory prototype 1972 Porsche 916, the first of ten pre-production 916 models built and originally owned by Louise Piëch, which achieved $957,000; a race-winning 1980 BMW M1 Procar, the 36th example of a mere 54 Procars produced and sold new to American racing driver Joe Crevier, which sold for $913,000; and a stunning 2017 Ford GT, one of 138 models built for 2017 and offered from single ownership with just under 1,300 miles on the odometer, which achieved $858,000.

The remaining 57 lots in Online Only: SHIFT/MONTEREY will close for bidding beginning at 2:00 pm EDT (11:00 am PDT) on Saturday, 15 August on rmsothebys.com, including the highly anticipated star car—a 2001 Ferrari 550 GT1 Prodrive, the second of ten Ferrari 550 GT1 examples built by Prodrive, and arguably the most illustrious of them all with a competitive career spanning over four years and participation in 49 races. Official results will be available following sale. Results are listed in USD and include buyer’s premium.
