BLENHEIM, ONTARIO, CANADA – May 8, 2020 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) – RM Sotheby’s is delighted to present Online Only: Original Racing Posters, 1925-1972 entirely without reserve via its online auction platform on rmsothebys.com, open for bidding on Monday, 11 May at 1:00 pm ET and running through 18 May at 11:00 am ET with lots closing in two-minute increments. The sale features a unique group of more than 90 outstanding racing, event, and commemorative posters from 1925 to 1972.

Presented from a life-long, fastidious collector, entirely without reserve, the group of posters highlights major venues and marques during some of motor racing’s greatest decades, spanning the spectrum from Formula 1, road racing, and rallye to art deco styling. Each authentic example is professionally archival linen-mounted and in exceptional original condition.

Leading the collection highlights is the V Carrera Panamericana, Mexico, 1954 event poster, a world-famous artwork in outstanding condition, designed to celebrate the fifth and final running of the Mexican road race, which was won by legendary Italian racing driver Umberto Maglioli in the Ferrari 375 Plus (Est. $4,000 – $6,000). Joining the Carrera Panamericana poster is a world-renowned piece by French painter Géo Ham, A.C.F, Reims, 1938. Created for the Auto Club de France, this original poster spotlights the 1938 Grand Prix motor race held at the Reims-Gueux circuit and comes complete with a tax stamp (Est. $2,500 – $3,500).

Further renowned road racing competitions are well represented within this collection, including several pieces created for the famed Mille Miglia, an open-road motorsport endurance race established in 1927. The Mercedes-Benz, XXII Mille Miglia, 1955 by Anton Stankowski memorializes the famous Mercedes-Benz victories at the 1955 Mille Miglia races with a list of the rankings and a dynamic image of the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR marked #722 driving at speed (Est. $450 – $650). Also set for the online auction is a vintage, Italian-language version of the Automobile Club Brescia XXIII Mille Miglia, 1956 poster with the same image as the 1956 Mille Miglia yearbook cover (Est. $200 – $300).

Additional standout highlights within the collection including a rare, original 24 Heures du Mans, 1960 poster showcasing a photo of the race cars at the starting line of the 1959 race (Est. $1,200 – $1,500); likely the most sought-after Sebring poster, a 12 Hours of Sebring, Florida, 1963 piece with renowned art by John Zito featuring drivers running to their cars (Est. $1,000 – $1,200); and a 12 Hours of Sebring, 1971 race event poster with the famous photo of the Porsche 917 and the Ferrari 512S battling it out on the track (Est. $600 – $800).

The Original Racing Posters sale follows RM Sotheby’s successful offering of additional memorabilia and collectibles via the company’s Online Only platform, including the most recent offering of Classic & Rare Porsche Posters, which exceeded expectations and achieved $89,183 in total sales. The one-week sale saw bidders participate from no less than 16 countries, 30 percent of which were first-time RM Sotheby’s clientele.

Due to current circumstances regarding the global COVID-19 pandemic, RM Sotheby’s encourages successful bidders in Online Only: Original Racing Posters, 1925-1972 to make shipping arrangements via third parties to have the items collected from RM Sotheby’s Culver City, California facilities and can recommend a local service.
