EnduroCross Championships to be Decided in Boise this Weekend

Men’s and Women’s championships coming down to the final race

IRVINE, CA – November 1, 2018 – (Motor Sports Newswire) –  This has been an exciting season of AMA EnduroCross with packed arenas hosting exciting racing at all five rounds so far. The final, championship deciding round will take place inside the Ford Idaho Center this Saturday, November 3rd. Rockstar Husqvarna’s Colton Haaker holds a slim six-point lead over FMF KTM’s Cody Webb, so the pressure is intense. The Women’s class is just as intense as FMF KTM’s Kacy Martinez has a three-point gap over AE Racing backed Shelby Turner.

For Haaker, a second-place finish will clinch his second EnduroCross championship and a third place could be enough, depending on the bonus points earned. There is a bonus point awarded to each of the two heat race winners and the winner of the bracket race also earns a bonus point. Webb will need to earn the two bonus points available to him and have Haaker not earn any of those bonus points and finish third or worse to take the title. The racing has already been intense this year between Haaker and Webb, so this should be an amazing battle for the 2018 AMA EnduroCross championship.

The Super EnduroCross Junior Championship for Super EnduroCross riders twenty-one and under is also close. California’s Ty Cullins holds an eight-point lead over Arizona’s Cooper Abbott. Cullins and Abbott are currently holding sixth and eighth place, respectively. Past Junior Champions include Colton Haaker, Taylor Robert, Ty Tremaine and Max Gerston so this is a good indicator of future success.

For the women, Martinez and Turner have each finished first and second at the five races so far. For the support classes, their lowest score prior to the final is dropped, so Martinez comes into the finals with three wins and a second while Turner comes in with two wins and two second place scores. So, if Turner can take another win and Martinez finishes second, Turner will take the championship based on the better finish in the final round, breaking the tie. Therefore, Martinez needs to beat Turner to wrestle the title away from the two-time and defending champion.

There will also be racing for Vet, Amateur and TrialsCross classes. In the Vet class, off-road racing legend Destry Abbott has already clinched the championship but Dan Hayakawa, Craig Thompson and Eric Schettler are locked in a tight battle for second. Idaho’s David Kamo holds a commanding lead over James Flynn and Gavin McCarthy for the Open Amateur class championship. And Coleman Johnson has already clinched the TrialsCross championship. These support classes are always exciting to watch.
