Dunlop Dominates 2021 Pro Motocross Championship

Pro Motocross Domination

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – September 14, 2021 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) –  The Carson City Motorsports Hangtown Motocross Classic just outside of Sacramento, California was the twelfth and final round of the 2021 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. After winning all the AMA Pro Supercross and Motocross championships since 2010, it was no surprise that for the twelfth consecutive year, Dunlop riders won both the 2021 250 and 450 National Motocross Championships. The Dunlop Domination continued throughout the overall championship standings, taking the top thirteen spots in the premier 450 class, and taking the top nine positions in the 250 class. By capturing all the pro AMA titles in 2021, Dunlop riders have now won a remarkable 168 AMA Pro Motocross and Supercross Championships.

In the 450 class, rookie Monster Energy/Star/Yamaha 450 rider Dylan Ferrandis domination was a surprise to many as coming straight from the 250’s is no easy task. After clinching the title at Pala Raceway with one race to go, the Frenchman didn’t stop his winning ways. Ferrandis won the last race of the year to put the icing on the cake and finish out with 6 overall wins for the season. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s and Team Dunlop Elite alumni Eli Tomac finished second overall in the championship points after putting in a hard charge towards the end of the year to finish his season out strong.

The 250 title was the one to watch as it all came down to the final round. Aussie Jett Lawrence headed into Hangtown with a 23-point lead over Monster Energy/Star/Yamaha Racing’s Justin Cooper and only needed to earn 27 points to clinch the championship. The slightly injured Cooper did all he could to stop Team Honda HRC’s Lawrence at Hangtown, ending the day with perfect 1-1 finishes. The 18-year-old Jett Lawrence struggled throughout the day only going 8-3 but it was enough to win the championship by a mere 6 points.

In addition, Red Bull Factory Racing’s and Team Dunlop Elite alumni Max Vohland was awarded the 2021 Marty Smith Rookie of the Year award after ending the season with a fourth place overall and finishing ninth overall in the season standings.

“I’m very proud to be a part of such an amazing organization,” said Broc Glover, Sr. Manager of Off-Road Motorcycles for Dunlop. “Not only is this the twelfth consecutive year Dunlop riders won both Lucas Oil Pro Motocross championships, but our riders also had a perfect podium record in both classes at all twelve rounds! This is a testament to the brand, product and hard-working Dunlop staff that represent and support Dunlop day in and day out. Motocross riders have a choice in tires, and we want to thank all the teams and riders who chose to race on Dunlop.”
