Porsche Fans: Rejoice Over the Mecum Monterey 2017 Lineup

More than 60 examples of the famed German sports cars will be offered Aug. 16-19

WALWORTH, WI – August 15, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – In many ways, the Porsche name is synonymous with Northern California. It’s not hard to conjure up visions of motoring along the Pacific Coast Highway while carving the curves in one of the German sports cars. The 2017 Mecum Daytime Auction in Monterey, California, this Aug. 16-19 carries on the tradition of these images by offering some of the most superb machines ever built by the Stuttgart automaker, including classic 356s and 911s as well as supercars such as the 959 and Carrera GT.

1991 Porsche 911 Turbo

The 356 is a model that allowed Porsche some of its earliest racing and street success. A featured auction offering is a 1958 356A Speedster (Lot S115) sporting Code 5706 Silver Metallic paint that looks absolutely brilliant and should warm the heart of any Porsche purist. However, the 911 variants make up the majority of Porsche offerings, as should be the case with a model that has been on sale for more than 50 years. One of the best examples to cross the block is likely the 1996 911 GT2 (Lot S68)—one of only 194 Strassenversion (street version) Type 993 GT2s produced in 1996—gleaming in rare Speed Yellow paint and looking the part of one of the fastest production cars of the ‘90s.

When Porsche builds a supercar, it doesn’t mess around. Showing technology that was far ahead of its time is the 1988 Porsche 959 Komfort (Lot S113). This sinister Graphite-colored machine possesses forward-thinking technology such as Kevlar and aluminum bodywork, twin-turbochargers and all-wheel-drive that seemed awfully advanced back in the day. One of the best finds of the auction could be the amazing 25-mile 2004 Porsche Carrera GT (Lot S83) that is finished in GT Silver Metallic over a distinctive Terracotta interior. This V-10-powered machine sports the only ceramic composite clutch ever fitted to a production vehicle and works in concert with the racing-bred six-speed manual gearbox and Le Mans-inspired pushrod inboard suspension to create an experience unlike any other road car ever built.

The list of great Porsches at Mecum Monterey 2017 is long, with some signature models scheduled to cross the block on Saturday, Aug. 19, including:

  • 1996 Porsche 911 GT2 (Lot S68) – Estimate: $1,600,000-$1,900,000
