Stage Win for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Pablo Quintanilla at Qatar Rally

Quintanilla Finishes 4th Overall; 6th Overall for Renet

April 22, 2017 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing´s Pablo Quintanilla took line honours in the final stage of the Qatar Cross Country Rally to finish fourth overall in round two of the FIM Cross Countries Rally World Championship. Factory teammate Pela Renet was fourth in the stage and sixth overall.

Quintanilla, the current world rally champion put in a great ride in the final desert stage, riding through the pain of a small knee injury that has tested his performance all week. He started the final stage as one of five riders with a chance of a minor podium place and won the stage by just eight seconds to be 1:51 minutes away from the third podium place. He now has several months to regain full fitness before round three of the five round series, which will be the Atacama Rally, his home race in Chile (August 12-18).

Quintanilla: “This was a really tough week for me. I had a lot of pain in my knee every day. I tried to be consistent but I lost my speed. I never felt like I usually feel and this affected my confidence. Today I gave 100%. I did have some pain but I tried to push all the time. I won the stage, it was not enough for the podium but I am still happy. Sometimes you have a good race but sometimes also a bad race, but what is important is to be consistent and do your best, and this is what I tried to do. I want to thank all the team and my mechanic Ramon, and our team manager Daniel (Trauner). There are still three more races in the series and for sure I want to get as many points as I can.”

Renet also put up a fierce race un the final stage to finish just nine seconds behind third placed Matthias Walkner. His sixth place overall was largely due to some navigation errors in the early stages. But the newest member of the team was also satisfied with his riding.

Renet: “Today, like every day I tried to stay with the top guys and the week was good, even though I finished 20 minutes behind and I was a bit disappointed to finish sixth overall. I was riding with the top group all the time. I always tried continue to improve and I’m taking another step forward in every race, and I will continue like this in the future.”
