GVE London sees rapid rise in demand for modern classics

UXBRIDGE, UK- November 3, 2016 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – GVE London, one of the capital’s leading specialists in luxury supercars, is increasingly being asked to source ‘modern classics’ for a new breed of car collectors and enthusiasts.

“There are some significant changes going on within the market”, says David Rai, founder and managing director at GVE. “As a new generation of affluent enthusiasts enter the market, there is an increasing trend for demand for cars of the post-1980 era, as the these are the cars that resonate with many buyers who are currently between 30 and 45-years-old. They make a stronger emotional connection to cars of that era than they do cars of the Fifties and Sixties. Publicly, people can see some of the auction prices being achieved for modern classics, and we believe that this is a trend that will continue over time.”

As a business that has built a reputation for sourcing fine modern supercars, GVE is well set to cater for needs of the changing market. “Our specialist skills and knowledge in this area of the market is perhaps stronger than some of the dealers more traditionally associated with classic cars”, continues David Rai. “We understand these cars completely, we know what makes a fine example and where to source the best for our clients. Rai lists cars such as all post-1990 Porsche RS and GT2/GT3 derivatives as being hugely popular. The low production numbers, driver-focused dynamics and race-bred heritage, all play a key part. Similarly, Ferraris such as the 360 Challenge Stradale, 430 Scuderia Spider 16M and 599 GTO, are all high on collectors wish lists with the standard variants following suit.

“The newer the cars, the more important low mileage becomes”, says Rai. “People are looking at investment potential, so production numbers, mileage and service history are the key drivers to value. There is also a love of the analogue approach to driver involvement, such as manual gearboxes – that’s why the 911R is a sure-fire future classic.”


At present, GVE’s showroom is stocking a 2016 Porsche 991 GT3 RS alongside a Cayman GT4 and a 964 RS Lightweight. The 2011 599 HGTE Fiorano is a desirable specification and highly collectable without the prohibitive cost associated with a 599 GTO. The company is also seeing a rising demand with modern McLarens, having recently sold a 2016 model 675LT Spider with just 500 miles on the clock.

A 1988, 13,000-mile Ferrari 328 also ticks all the right boxes. David Rai says: “It exemplifies the trends we’re seeing in the market. It was the poster car of the Eighties, it looks like a supercar should look, it’s very low mileage – and Magnum PI drove one – what’s not to like!”
