Savatgy Finishes on Top
Saturday was a great day for rider Joey Savatgy. In Moto 1, he took the holeshot and lead the pack throughout the entire race. Building off of the momentum from Moto 1, he rode past the competition in Moto 2 and once again crossed the checkers in a commanding first place. Ending the day on top of the podium, Joey now holds the coveted red plates and looks to defend them for the remainder of the season.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better day. Qualified fastest and went 1-1 for first overall. In Moto 1, I made things easy on myself by pulling a holeshot and leading every lap. Got another good start in the second moto and waited until the 25-minute mark to make my move for the lead and took it home to the checkered flag.”

Forkner Makes His Pro Debut
Throughout the day, all eyes were Austin Forker as he made his professional debut on the Monster Energy/ Pro Circuit/ Kawasaki Team. In both motos, he put pressure on the competition while remaining steady and consistent. In the second moto, he was well within in the Top 3 until a collision with another rider would cause him to fall back to 7th. Leaving Hangtown, Austin Forker finished in 8th overall and will continue to impress throughout the series.

“First moto I rode really tight in the first half of the race but near the end was able to calm my nerves and make a few passes to finish 13th. On the restart of Moto 2, my Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki launched me out of the gate and I came around turn one inside the top-five. I rode really strong for the first 20-25 minutes by pacing the leaders. After deciding to back it down, I crashed and ended the moto in eighth, but that’s definitely something I can build on. We learned a lot today and I had a blast.”

Cianciarulo Returns
Ready to race, Adam Cianciarulo made his highly anticipated return to racing on Saturday. Despite a small mishap in the first moto, he got back up and quickly began to pass the competition and make his way to the front of the line. In the second moto, he rode consistently and finished the day in an overall 13th.

“In the first moto I crashed on the opening lap which set me back. From there it was all about salvaging a decent position. The second moto was better and I felt I rode well. Overall, I’m happy to have gotten through Round 1 safely and I’m looking forward to improve throughout the year. This is just a starting point.”

Tonus Stays Motivated
Prepared for battle, Arnaud Tonus joined his teammates on Saturday’s opening day. Returning from a previous injury, he gave a solid performance and pushed himself throughout the entire day. In both motos, he rode smooth and consistent and relied on his skill. Arnaud Tonus remains motivated and eager to continue to get better and better each week!

“Coming into Hangtown, I hadn’t been able to ride or train as much as I’ve wanted to due to my shoulder I injured in supercross. It’s getting stronger every time I ride and our goal was to leave Hangtown with solid finishes and I believe that’s what we did, so I’m happy with how today went.
