Team RSD hits the track on Indian Scout Sixty custom racers
MINNEAPOLIS, MN – February 10, 2016 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Roland Sands Design is inviting riders ready for handlebar-to-handlebar flat track racing to join them in a series of SuperHooligan events across the U.S. Team RSD will race custom SuperHooliganIndian® Scout® Sixty racers that made their debut atthe “Superprestigio of the Americas” in Las Vegas last year:
Look for the RSD SuperHooligan Indian Scout Sixty race bikes Feb. 12-14 at The One Show in Portland, Ore., Feb. 19-21at Mama Tried in Milwaukee, Wis., March 8 during Bike Week in Daytona, Fla., March 19 at IV Flat Track Del Mar in Del Mar, Calif., and April 8 at the Hand Built Show in Austin, TX.
“We had a gas racing the Scout Super Hooligans in Las Vegas, so we really wanted to hit the road and do some more, similar events with riders from around the country,” said Roland Sands. “At the same time, Indian Motorcycle said it was excited about putting the Scouts on the track, so it was a natural fit to help promote these Hooligan events where we could ride!”
The spirit of hooligan racing comes from a simpler time, when you raced – and could ride home on – any bike you owned. With its roots in Southern California motorcycle culture, today’s flat track hooligan racing category is rapidly gaining in popularity with riders of all ages and experience levels across the nation by offering the fun of motorcycle competition in a less structured environment. Combining the craft of custom motorcycles and racing the SuperHooligan rules are loose and limit the bikes to 750CC and up twins in stock frames with dirt track tires and no front brakes.
The RSD SuperHooligan Indian Scout Sixty bikes first hit the track in November 2015, in conjunction with the “Superprestigio of the Americas” flat track race sanctioned by AMA Pro Flat Track. Racers included Roland Sands, Drake McElroy, Travis Newbold, Brendon Lutes and Aaron Colton. All five bikes competed through to the class’ mainevent and Roland himself finished third, taking Indian Motorcycle to its first podium finish in AMA flat track in many years.

Roland Sands is from Long Beach, California. His diverse upbringing encompasses just about every aspect of the motorcycle industry. His first motorcycle was an RM50 dirt bike given to him on his 5th birthday, on which, after just minutes of riding, he broke a bone… but fell in love with it anyway. His love of speed on two wheels took him to the professional racing ranks for 10 years. He set multiple track records around the world and was the 1998 American Motorcyclist Association 250GP champion. However, 32 broken bones later, Roland decided to trade in his racing leathers for a hammer, pencil and computer designing and began building motorcycles and custom motorcycle products. In 2005, he founded Roland Sands Design. Sands’ designs are a mixture of sport bike and chopper influences and he has played a pivotal role in popularizing high performance custom bikes. Roland and his designs (motorcycles and products) have earned many accolades throughout the years, including three V-Twin Wheel Design of the year awards; V-Twin Control Design; Chip Foose Design of Excellence Award in Sturgis; 2nd, 3rd and 4th place in the Modified Harley class at the World Championship of Custom Bike Building; V-Twin Trendsetter of the Year award; Biker Build Off Champion on the Discovery Channel; Biker Build Off Rookie of the year and the 2Wheel Tuner Brappy Award. Roland and the RSD fleet of custom motorcycles have been featured in more than 500 magazine articles worldwide, on more than 100 magazines covers. He attends most American motorcycle rallies and events year round, as well as multiple International shows. Sands has also starred in a variety of TV shows including Nitro Circus, Chopper Nation, Biker Build Off, Thunder and many others.
