Equine Help for our Military Veterans
CAMARILLO, CA – December 9, 2015 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Jim Thiessen, of JIMS recently hosted a fundraiser to benefit our military veterans called “Horses for Horsepower”. The event was done in conjunction with Reins of H.O.P.E. featuring live music, a display from Warrior Built, food, and an auction. Nearly sixty-three thousand dollars was raised for the veterans program.
Reins of H.O.P.E. (Human Opportunity Partnering with Equines) understands that people and horses have had symbiotic relationships since before the time of recorded history, and utilizes that fact to provide therapy for our veteran warriors.
The calming effect horses can have on people is beneficial for relieving the stress and trauma that our service personnel returning from the battlefield often face. Afflictions such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) are treated with equine therapy and there are testimonials to verify this. An Army Captain who returned from Iraq participated in the program and states, “Equine Therapy saved my life.” Reins of H.O.P.E. serves all veterans in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, as well as active duty personnel. “Fund raisers such as this allows us, with the help of our equine friends, to bring our veterans back as well as bring them home.”
