Forgeline Motorsports Wheels Chosen for New Spring Mountain Corvette Challenge Race Series

DAYTON, OH – November 12, 2015 – (Motor Sports Newswire) –  The new Michelin Corvette Challenge has selected Forgeline Motorsports as the official wheel provider for the inaugural Corvette race series to be held at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and Country Club in 2016. Forgeline was chosen because of the company’s extensive experience designing and building wheels that withstand the extreme demands of sports car racing.

Composed of identically-prepared, track-ready Corvette Stingray models, the series will feature 15 races over eight weekends, utilizing multiple configurations of Spring Mountain’s 6.1-mile racetrack. With a unique season-long payment plan, competitors will simply arrive and drive for each event and will then take delivery of their own Corvette Stingrays, following the season finale, on December 10th, 2016.

“The Corvette Stingray is one of the most track-capable production cars available, and we have enhanced the production specs to help ensure durability for a dedicated racing life,” said Ron Fellows. “Given the tremendous excitement surrounding the seventh-generation Corvette, we felt that an entry-level series with reasonable costs, and in our school-based environment here at Spring Mountain, would be very appealing to Corvette enthusiasts.”

The Forgeline wheel that the Michelin Corvette Challenge chose to pair with the Michelin Pilot sport GT competition slick is the three piece GA3R, an American-made, purpose-built track wheel constructed from a 6061-T6 forging machined into a very light and very strong center. The inner and outer rims are also crafted from 6061-T6 aluminum, and the three pieces are assembled with aircraft-grade titanium fasteners. The wheels are 19 x 8.5 front and 19 x 11 rear, chosen by Ron Fellows as the best fitment for this application.  Forgeline’s GA3R’s are available for all C7’s in 18, 19 and 20-inch diameters through a nationwide network of Forgeline partners.

According to Fellows, “We needed a wheel manufacturer with a background in racing. With hands-on ownership, tremendous service capabilities and American made, Forgeline was a natural fit as the wheel of choice for the Michelin Corvette Challenge,” notes Fellows.

The Ron Fellows Performance Driving School, based at Spring Mountain, collaborated with Chevrolet and Michelin to develop the series, and will serve as technical race partner for the series. Many of the performance components are derived from a new portfolio of Corvette Z06-based parts from Chevrolet, designed to enhance the handling, braking, cooling and downforce performance of the Stingray.

Forgeline, an in-demand wheel provider for many professional race teams in the IMSA, Pirelli World Challenge and Trans Am series, is excited about the opportunity to participate in this unique enthusiast event. “To be part of a program with Ron Fellows is quite an honor, and our lightweight, forged wheels crafted for these vehicles will contribute to a high-quality driving experience,” said Dave Schardt, president, Forgeline.

Below is the schedule for the 2016 series, with each race weekend featuring a pair of 30-minute races on the challenging six-mile Spring Mountain circuit:

  • March 19/20
