Singular Sports Cars Among Gooding & Company’s Offerings
at Pebble Beach Auctions
SANTA MONICA, CA – June 4, 2015 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Gooding & Company, the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, returns to the beautiful Del Monte Forest to host its annual Pebble Beach Auctions on August 15 and 16. Known as the auction industry leader because of its expertly selected and curated collector cars, Gooding & Company looks forward to delivering another dazzling blend of rarities, antiques, and sports cars. Among the lots this year is a remarkable slate of cars from the Peter Klutt Collection, each with significant value and offered without reserve, including an award-winning, low-mileage, and highly original 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4. Other collection highlights include a 1967 Ferrari Dino 206 SP (Estimate $2,600,000-$3,000,000) and a 1966 Ford Shelby Cobra 427 (Estimate $1,200,000-$1,400,000).
“I am thrilled to offer the Peter Klutt Collection,” said David Gooding, President of Gooding & Company. “Peter is recognized around the world for his hit show ‘Dream Car Garage.’ His vast knowledge of cars comes from years of restoring, racing, buying and selling muscle, sports, and racing cars. His keen eye for quality and originality are evident in the cars that he has chosen to sell publicly. “It is a pleasure to work with someone who is so knowledgeable and passionate about his cars. Every example will be sold without reserve to the highest bidder, which is sure to cause a sensation amongst collectors.”
Gooding & Company also has two more stunning postwar sports cars among its early highlights: a true “one of one” 1988 Porsche 959 Komfort, and a 1957 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk II Fixed Head Coupe available publicly for the first time since it was built nearly 60 years ago.
“Gooding & Company has always been passionate about low mileage, unique and beautifully preserved cars,” Gooding noted. “For this reason we are particularly excited about the wonderful Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin that we will present at our Pebble Beach Auctions. These three cars have never been offered for sale publicly, and even more important is the fact that they can be considered the first of their kind, so they are sure to garner a tremendous amount of attention and bidding.”
Here’s a closer look at the three early highlights:
1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4
(Estimate Available Upon Request, Without Reserve)
With only an approximate 10,000 miles from new, this 275 GTB/4 is a very original four-cam. After being held by one family for more than 40 years, the four-cam was rediscovered and displayed at North America’s top classic events; it won a Second in Class award in the competitive postwar preservation judging at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, and it achieved Platinum and Preservation Platinum awards at the January 2014 Cavallino Classic in Palm Beach, Florida. Offered without reserve by Gooding & Company at this year’s Pebble Beach Auctions, this 275 GTB/4 carries a highly attractive color combination of dark blue exterior and tan leather interior. Here is a rare opportunity to purchase what many consider to be one of the most original 275s in existence, even retaining its original factory applied paint, tires, exhaust, interior, and chrome.
1988 Porsche 959 Komfort
Nowhere on Earth will anyone find another car like this 959 Komfort. It is one of only three 959s featuring an exterior finish in Porsche Paint Code 041 – a paint-to-sample black. Additionally, it is the only one of those three with wheels painted to match. Set against an interior of spectacular custom-ordered caramel brown leather – the leather even covers the knobs and vents – this 959 delivers an unmatched feast for the eyes. Meticulously maintained at Porsche Zentrum Gstaad and bearing 10 official Porsche Zentrum stamps in the original service book, it is complete with books and documents from new, service receipts and tool roll. This enthralling 959 would make an excellent acquisition for the person who seeks a singularly outfitted example of Porsche’s iconic supercar.
1957 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk II Fixed Head Coupe
This captivating Aston Martin was delivered new to Southern California, where it has resided ever since. The rarest of all DB2/4 variants, the Tickford Notchback body is finished in Bottle Green with a Silver Gunmetal roof, just as it left the factory in 1957. In the care of just two owners, this well-kept Aston has never been comprehensively restored and has covered just over 45,000 miles from new. Available publicly for the first time since it was built nearly 60 years ago, the appearance of this very special DB2/4 represents an extremely rare opportunity.
Gooding & Company conducts the only auction held within the gates of the famed 17-Mile Drive, and the company is now in its second decade of hosting the official auction of the Pebble Beach Concours. During last year’s two-day event at Pebble Beach, Gooding & Company scored an 88% sale rate – selling 107 of 121 lots – and realized more than $106 million, with an average price of $990,699 per car. More than 30 cars sold for over $1 million.
