FROM THE HIDEOUT, RICHMOND, CA – March 16, 2015 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – SpeedMob is proud to announce the addition of STM clutches, billet accessories, tools and handlebar mounted switches to its growing list of premium products. Effective immediately, SpeedMob, Inc. will now be the exclusive distributor for STM Precision Machined products in the United States.
Tim Calhoun, President of SpeedMob, states: “We have been working on this deal for a very long time. STM is recognized as THE premium clutch maker for performance and race motorcycles worldwide and they also have a great selection of billet accessories and race switches. In recent years, they have had good representation from some excellent dealers in the United States but these dealers did not have the advantage and support of a solid, technically savvy distribution partner in this market.”
As part of this distribution agreement, SpeedMob will be creating a case exchange program for some fitments, developing an inventory of clutches and replacement pieces along with training a technical manager at STM’s Turin Italy facility to ensure the best possible information and service is made available to dealers, race teams and consumers.
Barbara Vergnano from STM’s sales department states: “We are excited to begin this new chapter. This distribution agreement will offer increased brand presence and marketing along with an increased level of service to the dealers and consumers that have allowed STM to remain a strong brand in the US market. STM is committed to SpeedMob’s success and will be supporting them with a new rapid fulfillment program to better service STM dealers and end-user’s product needs.”
Calhoun continues: “My staff and I felt that STM was an excellent fit and believe the rapid fulfillment program will allow us to offer the kind of sales support that dealers and the consumers deserve when they invest in a quality brand like STM. Our team is very committed to driving this brand back to its correct position in US market.”
The Company was founded in 1981 and originally designed and produced robotic components and precision measuring instruments. In the 90’s the company began to designing and produce high quality components for bicycles then later for motorcycles. This decision marked the first big strategic change for STM.
The second and most impactful change happened in the late 90’s when R&D developed the first STM slipper clutch prototype. This slipper clutch design was an instant success and created a revolutionary change in motorcycle riding technique. STM quickly became the world leader in the performance clutch sector and the slipper clutch era for motorcycles had begun.
The first STM slipper clutches were developed and tested with the Official Ducati World SBK team. These prototypes soon contributed team success resulting in two World SBK Championships.
Further evolution of STM clutch designs allowed them to extend their technology to wet clutches. In 2003 the “Evoluzione” slipper clutch technology was applied to wet clutch systems on Japanese motorcycles, instantly broadening its range of applications and reaching racers and riders globally for improved performance.
STM “Evoluzione” clutches stand out through their technological advances, innovative design and are built like fine watches as a defining statement of Italian art, expression and design.
Since this time, STM has continued to evolve its racing pedigree cooperating with top Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and Kawasaki teams worldwide, winning races and championships at every level. It has also continued to expand its product offerings that now include Motocross and Supermotard clutch products as well.
Today, STM products are constantly being tested and improved in order to satisfy the requirements of modern, technically-advanced motorcycles. STM products are developed and tested in cooperation with top teams and all STM components are designed with the latest metallurgical technologies and manufactured with the most advanced CNC machinery.
