More than half of the sought-after lineup of bikes to be offered at the Houston auction hail from the Mike Doyle Collection of Dixon, California. Comprised of 100-plus motorcycles, Doyle’s collection includes some of the finest two-wheeled machines available like a 1928 Henderson K-Deluxe (Lot U65), a completely restored 1949 Vincent HRD Black Shadow (Lot U72) with correct factory engine and frame numbers, and a 1913 Sears Auto-Cycle Single Cylinder (U132). Doyle’s 1926 Harley-Davidson JDH-8 Valve Board Track Racer (Lot U81) is a truly rare find. Built approximately 15 years ago using factory original cases and parts, this bike could be shown and judged at any A.M.C.A. event. Doyle’s collection also includes a great period racer in the form of a 1960 Ducati 260 Elite Racer (Lot U89). This gem is one of the early Ducati motorcycles with the company’s trademark valve systems and features a fresh concours restoration. Rarely does such a varied collection of American, British, German, Italian and Japanese motorcycles come to be offered from one collection.

Also set to cross the auction block are two motorcycles that once belonged to the King of Cool Steve McQueen including a 1931 Harley-Davidson VL (Lot U85) and a 1971 Husqvarna 250cc Moto-Cross (Lot U59). The Husky is a well-documented motorcycle initially invoiced to McQueen’s film business, Solar Productions, on Oct. 19, 1971, with a note on the invoice that read “Ship to Valerians for Steve to have picked up.” Originally purchased for $898, this machine has since been restored and is currently in clean, running condition.
