Copper Webb to Make Amateur All-Star Class Debut at the Monster Energy Cup

AURORA, IL – August 20, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that Cooper Webb, of Newport, N.C., will race in the Amateur All-Star Class at the second annual Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20.

Webb, 16, finished second overall at last year’s Monster Energy Cup in the Super-Mini Class, scoring 2-2 finishes in the two Main Event format. Webb is one of 22 top amateur riders at this year’s event that will represent the next generation of racers as they compete on the world’s biggest stage with 3.5 hours of live television coverage. Consisting of two Main Events, the Amateur All-Star Class features the graduating class of top amateurs that will turn professional the following season.

“The Monster Energy Cup is an awesome race,” said Webb. “I did it last year and it was really cool to be able to race on a supercross/motocross course. It’s an experience of a life time because you’re racing under the lights, you’re in a stadium and you have all of the people watching you. As soon as you get off the start everyone is yelling for you. You’re just sitting at the start and you look up and see everyone staring at you. It’s a cool thing [for] the amateurs to be able to race with the pros and to be able to watch the top guys like Villopoto, Dungey and all those guys.”

The winner of 80-plus national titles, including four Loretta Lynn’s Championships, Webb was the 2010 Amateur Rider of the Year.

The 2012 Monster Energy Cup features an all-new track design inspired by five-time Supercross Class Champion Ricky Carmichael. The Carmichael-inspired track design will consist of supercross and motocross obstacles unlike any other racetrack design in the world. More than 200’ of the track will be built into the grandstands, and the riders exit the stadium and race through the Monster Energy Fan Zone outside of the stadium and through the pit area before they catapult back into the stadium. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and any rider that wins all three Main Events will take home $1 million.
