Pirelli and JGRMX poised for strong season end behind Millsaps
SALT LAKE CITY, UT – April 30, 2012 (Motor Sports Newswire) – Racing in back-to-back open air stadiums, team JGRMX/ Toyota/ Yamaha riders Davi Millsaps and Gavin Faith had the weather on their side as the Salt Lake City skies remained blue and cloudless for round 16 of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series. Faith rode in place of aninjured James ‘Bubba’ Stewart at Rice-Eccles Stadium in front of 40,548 fans for the penultimate round.
Competing on Pirelli’s Scorpion MX family of tires, both riders transferred directly to the main event from their respective heats, with Millsaps winning his. In the main event, Millsaps shot out of the gate and led all riders through the first turn with Faith about mid-pack. Despite a small blunder in the rhythm section, Millsaps continued his consistent performance and finished second overall. Faith placed 14th for the night.
“We’ve been working hard each race to give our riders the best opportunity to win and both Davi and Gavin easily qualified for the main event this weekend,” said Josh Whitmire, Pirelli North America Off Road Manager. “Davi has proven he has the grit and determination to finish the season strong. The 2012 Supercross Championship has been a great success for Pirelli and we look forward to finishing second overall in the AMA Supercross Championship.”
Millsaps is currently second in overall points leading into the final race of the season. Stewart is fifth overall and still undetermined to race next weekend.
