Thor’s Villopoto Clinches 2012 Monster Energy Supercross Championship in Historical Fashion

JANESVILLE, WI – April 2, 2012 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – On Saturday night at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas, Thor’s Ryan Villopoto made Supercross history as he secured his second career Supercross class championship. By clinching the championship at Round 13, he entered the record books as the first rider to secured championship with four rounds remaining.

While Villopoto was the earliest to ever win a Supercross championship, he was also added to a prestigious list of only five riders to ever earn back-to-back championships. Since the 2007 Supercross season, riders have been attempting to defending their championships, and now Villopoto has successfully secured his second career Supercross class championship.
