MORGANTOWN, WV – August 18, 2011 – (Motor Sports Newswire) – Following a two-weekend break from competition, American Motocross returned to action last weekend with its annual visit to legendary Unadilla Valley Sports Center, in New Berlin, N.Y. The ninth round of 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship featured a pair of dominant performances from the eventual winners in both the 450 and 250 classes, and tonight, fans can see how it unfolded on FUEL TV, with a one-hour highlight show, airing at 10 p.m. Eastern and Pacific.
Just one round after moving into the lead of the 450 Class standings, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto put forth his best effort of the season in his first race with the coveted red number plate. Villopoto celebrated his birthday at Unadilla by sweeping the day’s motos in a near-perfect outing, which also signified a successful maiden voyage for the brand new 2012 Kawasaki KX450F. His second win of the summer helped Villopoto generate some breathing room in the points between he and Rockstar/Makita Suzuki’s Ryan Dungey, who finished second. Now, the duo is separated by just seven points.
In the 250 Class, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider Dean Wilson’s impressive consistency throughout the season finally resulted in his first overall victory of the year. The current championship leader in the division grabbed a pair of convincing moto wins, to extend his double-digit points lead to 25 over teammate Blake Baggett, and also keep his team’s undefeated record in 2011 intact. With three rounds remaining, Wilson has put himself in good position to claim his first career title.
The strong rides between the current leaders in the series, in addition to the highly-competitive action throughout the field at Unadilla, will be broken down and analyzed, moto-by-moto. FUEL TV will also set the stage for Round 10 of the championship, scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 27, with the Rockstar Energy Southwick National in Southwick, Mass.
