TEMECULA, CA, May 8, 2009 (Motor Sports Newswire) – In 1999, former Marine Rick Rathbun, a successful DoD aviation contractor founded Team Marines Racing (TMR) for the purposes of marketing Marine Corps recruiting efforts via NASCAR. His goal was to show his appreciation for the Marine Corps that had given him the drive and motivation to succeed in life. TMR ran a Nationwide Series car under the Marines colors from 1999 thru 2005 via Team Rensi Motorsports.
Team Marines Racing, now operated by Lone Star Racing a Texas based Limited Liability Corporation, has expanded their mission to bring awareness of our men and women in uniform, fallen heroes, and their families through the sponsorship marketing. Rick as the originator of TMR stands behind and embraces Lone Star’s goals. He will remain part of TMR in an advisory capacity. “I am proud to pass the torch to Lone Star, they have the heart and drive to continue my vision” said Rick.
The goal of TMR is to develop strong strategic relationships through the use of marketing to increase public awareness of the sacrifices made by men and women of all our armed services. This is done by creating an interactive experience with TMR and their association of professional race teams, while providing unique marketing opportunities for sponsors.
When a professional race team establishes a relationship with TMR, whether it be for a specific race or an entire season, this allows the racing team to attract additional sponsors that may not have been within reach prior to the TMR association. This is due in part to TMR’s massive following (Active, Former, Retired and Reserves of the Armed Forces) and the added value through the connection with the Marine Corps brand, one of the oldest and best known icons in the country.
TMR is focused on creating a strong brand-marketing message and developing a loyal following. Customized merchandise connected with sponsors and professional race teams is distributed at racetracks, sports venues, retailers, on military bases, and internet websites. TMR’s intent is to develop a partnering relationship with both the sponsor and the race teams.
Lone Star Racing management team consists of Dave Francisco Sgt.Maj. USMC (Ret), Chip Dykes CWO3 USMC (Ret), Tom Flynn, a DoD contractor and sponsor of the original TMR race team, and Steve Aquilino financier and real estate investor. Our goal is to develop a unique affiliation with Marine Corps Associations and to help promote recruiting efforts.
